We travel more and more often by plane, it is certainly the fastest and most convenient means of communication. Thanks to these sky birds, we can be in sunny Tenerife or the center of Paris in a few hours in the middle of winter . The airplane is undoubtedly one of man’s greatest inventions. However, despite many advantages, our flight by plane does not always have to go according to plan, e.g. our flight may be delayed or, even worse, canceled. Then what? You have to fight because you can receive compensation for any inconvenience!

Did you know that if your flight is delayed by at least three hours, you are entitled to compensation of up to EUR 600 per person, plus reimbursement of other costs incurred? But that’s not all! You can also claim compensation if you were denied boarding due to overbooking (more tickets booked than seats) or if your flight was canceled.

The compensation due is very easy to calculate. Depending on the flight distance, you can claim compensation of EUR 250 (up to 1,500 km), EUR 400 (1,500 km to 3,500 km) or EUR 600 (over 3,500 km).

Delayed flight. How to get compensation?

Just knowing what compensation you are entitled to will not help much if you do not contact the carrier for it. You can of course do it yourself. However, acting on your own is doomed to failure, unless you are a law expert and have a lot of free time. A much better way to apply for compensation for a delayed flight is to outsource all this “paperwork” to a company that specializes in it . There are many such companies on the market and it is difficult to choose the best one. I won’t show it to you either. However, I will tell you that from my and Goha’s experience, it is best to choose the one that has been on the market for years. An additional argument for choosing the company is the fact that they will serve you in Polish and will deal with your case free of charge, meeting all required deadlines, and at the same time giving you a guarantee that if for some reason the airlines do not grant you compensation, you will not incur any costs.

There is something else that makes it happen. The entire procedure for claiming compensation should be extremely simple.

All you have to do is fill out the form and turn your inconvenience into high compensation for, for example, a delayed flight.

And what is the right to do so?

Apply for compensation for, among others: You can have a delayed flight on the basis of Regulation №261 of the European Union , which entered into force in 2005. Throughout the years the regulation was in force, only two percent of passengers decided to apply for compensation. According to reports, if all eligible passengers applied for compensation, the total amount would exceed EUR 4 trillion. The most common reason is the lack of knowledge of your rights and the time within which you can apply for compensation.

Time is one of the most important factors when it comes to compensation for a delayed flight. Unfortunately, Poles do not have it easy in this matter, because according to our law we only have one year to initiate compensation proceedings. For comparison, in most countries it is 3 years, and in the UK even 6 years. Fortunately, even a Polish passenger has the right to apply for compensation in the country from which he or she flew . This is how we can bypass the regulation that harms us.

Of course, not knowing the jurisdiction in a given country and the need to hire a lawyer is associated with problems, and the costs incurred will far exceed the amount of compensation. Therefore, it is better to seek the help of professionals and let them handle the entire procedure.

I hope I helped a little and now you know your rights, and if your flight is delayed, you will fight for the compensation you are entitled to .
